At your own paceDo I need to have published anything to join?
No. Membership is open to anyone who writes and is at least 18. Many of our members joined before they had finished two pieces. The community is for writers at every stage, from first work to published author.
Do I need to be Rwandan?
WSA-Rwanda is primarily a community for Rwandan writers and writers of Rwandan heritage. If you are not Rwandan but have a strong connection to Rwanda or Rwandan literature, email us first and we'll be happy to discuss.
What language does the community use?
The community communicates primarily in English and Kinyarwanda. You do not need to be fluent in both — most of our conversations happen in English, with Kinyarwanda used naturally where it feels right.
Is the free membership really free?
Yes. Completely free, with no card required and no trial period. The free membership includes everything listed. The paid tiers are optional contributions.
Can I leave the community if I change my mind?
Of course. You can leave the WhatsApp group, unsubscribe from emails, and ask us to cancel your membership at any time. No hard feelings. Your published work remains on the site unless you specifically ask us to remove it.
What if I live outside Kigali?
Our community is based primarily in Kigali, with members across Rwanda and the diaspora. Most workshops are available online, and we are expanding events to other regions. Wherever you are, you are welcome.
